WMC Talk Video

In August of this year, I was asked to speak at one of my absolute favorite creative conferences WMC FEST. If you didn't get to attend WMC, I'm a bit bummed for you because you missed out on an amazing weekend of community, support and inspiration. But you are in luck, because they've just post all the videos from the conference, so you can at least share in the inspiration. Lucky you.

In my talk, I discuss the role that cultural history plays in my work as an artist and designer. And how I use history as a platform for making contemporary work.

Also, if you enjoy the talk let me know and please shareI'm interested in more speaking engagements so if you'd like to have me come talk at your school or event please get in touch! veronica@winterbureau.com

Also, here are my fav talks from the weekend!

Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge gave a great talk on Doing the Things that Scare You

Martine Syms talks about her process and work in her talk Lessons of the Tradition

Sonnenzimmer share what they've learned in their 8 years of collaborating in their talk The Exchange Rate

Speaking at WMC Fest, August 15-17th

I'll be speaking at this year's Weapons of Mass Creation Fest in Cleveland, Ohio on August 17th! WMC Fest is a 3 day festival/ conference combining Art, Design and Music. I'm incredibly excited to be sharing the stage with such an amazing line-up of presenters!

I'm particularly looking forward to talks by Sonnenzimmer, Grace Bonney, Melody Kramer and Martine Syms just to name a few. But the whole weekend promises to be filled with creative inspiration.

Hope to see you there! Tickets available here

Opening Reception / Discarded: the Afterlife of Everyday Electronics

Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 5:30-8:30pm

Come on out to the opening reception of Discarded!

Discarded: the Afterlife of Everyday Electronics focuses on the abundance of everyday electronics and constant upgrades of technology, while examining what happens to the previous versions when deemed no longer useful. This multimedia exhibition uses performances, interactive arts, mixed media, time-based works, and installation to display the excess of outdated electronic devices. Artists examine issues ranging from planned obsolescence of technology, the proliferation of unwanted electronics being re-appropriated as art materials, and the feeling of nostalgia for the "rejected" vintage items. Through this work, the exhibition uncovers narratives for the discarded items that often find a new life after being left behind.
